Chromium contamination of groundwater threatens drinking water safety in many parts of the world. Join this webinar to learn how simple, affordable monitoring tools and community-based approaches can help detect contamination and support safer water solutions.

Our guest speaker, Dr. Abhas Singh, Professor of Civil Engineering and Adjunct Faculty member at the Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, will share insights from more than a decade of research and community engagement in Kanpur, India—an area severely affected by hexavalent chromium pollution.

Dr. Singh will explain what chromium contamination is and why it poses risks for drinking water safety. He will also present practical tools for groundwater monitoring, including a smartphone-based test for detecting chromium, and discuss treatment approaches used at household and community levels. Drawing on real-world experience, he will highlight how community involvement can improve the adoption and effectiveness of environmental solutions.

By the end of this webinar, you will gain practical insights and real-world approaches that can support groundwater monitoring and mitigation efforts in your own community or professional context.

A live question period will follow the presentation.
